Pistons Make Another Trade Deadline Move, Acquire Two Players From Houston

The Detroit Pistons were active in the trade deadline period. They acquired forward Tobias Harris from the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. Then, today, the Pistons made another move.

Stan Van Gundy always gets who he wants. When it was reported a few months ago that the Detroit Pistons were interested in Donatas Motiejunas people should have known that Stan Van Gundy would make it happen.

The trade was reported by Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. Detroit will send center Joel Anthony to the Houston Rockets for power forward Donatas Motiejunas and shooting guard Marcus Thornton. Joel Anthony was later reported to be shipped from Houston to the Philadelphia 76ers also by Wojnarowski. Also involved in the deal, a first round pick. Detroit will send a top-8 protected 2016 1st round pick to the Rockets.

Motiejunas is a 7’0 power forward with the capability of being a center. He has struggled with injuries this season, and has only appeared in 14 games. He has averaged 5.6 points per game on 41.2% shooting from the three-point line. Motiejunas  is 25 years old.

Thornton is a 6’4 shooting guard with a pure jump shot. He’s averaging 10.0 points on 33.8% three-point shooting. He is 28 years old. Thornton has started 6 of 47 games this season for the Houston Rockets.
