“Boogie” Cousins hits clutch shot, seals Kings victory over Pistons 109-104

Led by DeMarcus Cousins, the Sacramento Kings (17-27) defeated the Detroit Pistons (21-25), 109-104.

Reggie Jackson led the Pistons with 18 points while dishing 11 assists. Jon Leuer finished with 15 points while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Andre Drummond both scored 14.

Stan Van Gundy’s crew started off red hot, scoring 39 points on 62.5% shooting from the field (15-24) and 55.6% shooting from behind the arc (5-9) in the 1st quarter. Before getting into foul trouble, Jon Leuer had 15 points on 6-6 shooting while showcasing his passing abilities.

Early in the first half, the Pistons also did a great job defending Sacramento’s All-Star, DeMarcus Cousins. SVG called for the double-team on Cousins, forcing 3 early turnovers while holding him to just 2 points. Unfortunately, the Pistons could not hold “Boogie” down the whole game. Cousins finished with 22 points, 14 rebounds and 6 assists.

Overall, this loss is on the Pistons bench. Tobias Harris was the only bench player without a +/- rating of -10 and he was -3. Ty Lawson “turned back the clock,” having one of his best games of the year scoring 19 points while dishing 6 assists.

Lastly, Willie Cauley-Stein scored 12 points and Matt Barnes chipped in 10 as the Pistons bench could not stop anybody. The Detroit Pistons will enjoy an extended rest as they do not play until Saturday against the Miami Heat.
