Game Recap: Led by Hayward, Jazz beat down Pistons 97-83

Tonight, the Detroit Pistons (33-35) were beat down by the Utah Jazz (43-25) 97-83.

At halftime, the Detroit Pistons only had 35 points and outside the paint, the Pistons shot 2 of 19. After the game, Coach Stan Van Gundy commented “Two for 19 outside the paint. I mean, c’mon. You can’t play NBA basketball like that.” Furthermore, SVG stated “You just can’t. And it is deflating. But you know what? Our defense was awful, too.”

Ish Smith had a team-high 16 points and only one Piston starter hit double-digits (Kentavious Caldwell-Pope 10 points) in scoring. Overall, the Utah Jazz outshot, out passed, and out rebounded the Pistons and this game was over by halftime.

All-Star Gordon Hayward led the Jazz in scoring (25p), rebounds (9r), and assists (6a). Simply put, offensively, he dominated the game:

Defensively, All-Star snub, Rudy Gobert did a great job protecting the paint. Gobert swatted 4 shots while collecting 9 rebounds. The French big-man also dished 5 assists.

Tonight, the Jazz dominated the Pistons from tip-off and Detroit never had a chance to get into the game. Detroit will stay home to play the Toronto Raptors on Friday at the Palace at 7:30pm EST.
