Top 10 candidates to replace Stan Van Gundy and the direction of the Pistons franchise

Today the Detroit Pistons parted ways with Stan Van Gundy after a disappointing four year tenure that saw just one playoff appearance. At the moment, most Pistons fans are rejoicing because of the move, however, it is unclear who the next coach will be for the team.

The Pistons now join the coach-less Charlotte Hornets, Orlando Magic, Milwaukee Bucks, and Atlanta Hawks. For reference, here is the list of potential coaches that the Bucks will interview this week:

For the Pistons, here is a list of 10 potential hires and as you can see, many overlap with the Bucks:

• Jerry Stackhouse

• David Blatt

• Mike Budenholzer

• Becky Hammond

• Frank Vogel

• Stephen Silas

• Ettore Messina

• Nick Nurse

• Steve Clifford

• David Vanterpool

Although there is no clear front runner at the moment, it will be very interesting to see what direction Tom Gores wants to take the franchise. One thing is clear though, the role of President of Basketball Operations and coach will be separated for now and that the Pistons are trying to find an “experienced front office executive.”
