Pistons Coaching Candidate John Beilein Announces He will Coach at Michigan Next Season

Over the last few weeks, the Pistons have extensively searched for a head coach to replace the dismissed Stan Van Gundy. Last week the most intriguing name yet leaked out from Detroit’s coaching search, as Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported the Pistons were talking with University of Michigan head coach, John Beilein.

A few days ago another report dropped stating that Detroit wanted to further conversations with Beilein, as well as Dwane Casey and Ime Udoka.

Today, John Beilein took to Twitter to announce he would be coaching at Michigan again next season, taking his name out of the running for Detroit’s head coaching position.

Unless there are other candidates that have not been reported, this means that the coaching search has seemingly come down to Udoka and Casey.

There are no details yet as to what transpired between Detroit and Beilein over the last few days and how/why those talks ended.

Now, Detroit must shift focus to the final candidates as the NBA Draft nears.

Happy to hear this honestly. Beilen can stay put and the Pistons get a dream hire in Dwayne Casey. Win for everybody involved.
