The New Mexico State Product was a standout last season in college, averaging over 20 points per game for the Aggies. Lofton played on the Pistons’ Summer League team where he played well and clearly made a strong impression.
He most likely is not going to be with the Pistons this season, but by signing him to a deal in training camp, if the Pistons cut him before the final roster is made they will hold his G-League rights allowing them to ensure his place with the Grand Rapids Drive. They did the same thing with Landry Nnoko and Derek Willis last year.
