Welcome back to another loss-ridden rendition of POP On the Clock. It was a quiet week for Detroit, as the Pistons took losses in all of their games this week, and multiple players went down with injuries for the Pistons.
Hey… that sounds like every week for us at this point!
The battle for that top lottery spot keeps getting sweeter and sweeter (Here’s to getting Obi Toppin).
The Week In Games:
Detroit had yet another loss-filled weak, taking close losses to western conference contenders Oklahoma City (114-107) and Utah (111-105). The Pistons also dropped an absolutely horrid performance against the New York Knicks, losing 96-84.
Pistons News of the Week:
The Pistons had a relatively quiet news week, but a new face was added to the roster in Jordan McRae. The forward, who was waived by the Denver Nuggets earlier this season, was brought in to provide more of a scoring punch for a squad struggling offensively.
That struggle will not be helped with the absence of Derrick Rose, who is expected to miss “weeks” with an ankle injury he took in a 106-100 loss to the Sacramento Kings. However, that absence might help the Pistons in the race for top lottery odds. John Henson also went down with an ankle injury against the Knicks.
Detroit also sent down Donta Hall and Sekou Doumbouya to the G League. Hall was signed to another 10-day contract earlier in the week. Doumbouya, who’s had massive struggles in the Pistons’ rotation, thrived in his lone game on the Drive before being called back up.
This performance seemed to help Sekou get his confidence back, as he proceeded to have a really strong game against the Utah Jazz.
Weekly Awards:
Game of the Week: Pistons lose to Jazz, 111-105
The Pistons had no reason to be in this game, giving up a gigantic lead to Utah by the second half. However, thanks to efforts from Christian Wood, Bruce Brown and Sekou Doumbouya, the Pistons stepped up to make this a fight.
Player of the Week: Christian Wood
Wood had another strong week for Detroit, highlighted by an insane performance against the Utah Jazz, where he a career high 30 points and 11 rebounds against Rudy Gobert. That almost wasn’t all of it for Rudy, who decided to mess with Bruce Brown. Wood was locked and loaded to take on the Stifle Tower, but play eventually resumed.
Play of the Week:
Honestly, this is cheating but I’m just going to drop Christian Wood’s entire game against Utah. An absolute poster-fest.
The POP Podcast: The podcast this week is about a potential young center the Pistons could target this offseason and if Derrick Rose will (should?) play again this season.
Up Next:
The Pistons will continue the tankathon by facing one of the worst two-game weeks imaginable, facing both the Toronto Raptors and the Philadelphia 76ers at their respective arenas.
