Omari Sankofa of the Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Pistons have picked up the team option for next year’s season on nineteen year old Sekou Doumbouya.
This shouldn’t come as a very big surprise to many, as the 15th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft has flashed major potential in his rookie season, and already doing so the 2020 NBA Pre-Season. Detroit picking up this team option as quickly indicates Sekou is one of the foundational pieces in Detroit’s, ‘restoring,’ of the franchise. Detroit is betting big on Doumbouya and 7th pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, fellow Frenchmen, Killian Hayes.
Doumbouya’s rookie contract will run through the 2022-2023 season.
